Explanation of Events

Auction: The auction is the main fundraiser for the Financial Aide fund. This year it will be hosted by the Open Montessori Initiative (OMI) so donations will be eligible for a tax donation. This is a very fun adult event with food catered by the Hoffman House Restaurant, live music and professional auctioneer Grant Sharp providing his skills and wit for a truly enjoyable evening. Be sure not to miss it!

Centenary Celebration: This is an exciting once-in-a-life-time opportunity for all those who have been touched by Dr. Maria Montessori's work to come together and celebrate 100 years of success! There will be an event at the Pioneer Courthouse Square which will include booths and a live classroom!

Childcare: All childcare will be provided at Foothills Community Church . There is a $5 per child charge that will be billed to your invoice, unless otherwise noted. All childcare must be pre-registered for so that our adult-to-child ratios are correct.

Community Accords Weekend: This is a one-time event. Be a part of Greenstone's history! The school will be adopting its Community Accords. The Community Accords are a very detailed document of the core values, goals and culture of the school. Participants are welcome to come to all or part of the process. An outside facilitator will be running the event. The same ground rules will apply as in the Community meetings. This is an opportunity for the whole community to come together to refine our core values, community goals and common agreements together. Come share your voice, ask your questions and learn a whole lot more about our school and Montessori as well. We will meet in the Elementary classroom.

Community Meeting: Our monthly family gathering. The agenda is set each month by those who participate. A rotating facilitator will be chosen from those in attendance. The ground rules include: respectful communication, and no family, student or staff member may be discussed at the meeting. This is a place to share ideas for overall school improvement and to make sure that we are holding true to our core values as described in our Community Accords. Children who are participating are welcome to attend. Child care will be available for children interested in playing. All meeting will begin with a potluck dinner, please bring a dish to share.

Giving Thanks Festival: This is a new event this year, designed to bring us together in a family friendly events. Actual activities and times will depend on the committee that organizes it. Committee sign up will be available at the Orientation or through the office. Detailed information will be available before the event.

Orientation: To review Parent Handbook, Calendar, and logistics for the year. Each family is required to send one parent, but both are highly encouraged to attend.. There are two dates to choose from. Please RSVP to the office or by email to: abby@greenstonemontessori.com to confirm your chosen date. Childcare is available, please let us know if you will need this when you RSVP. We will meet in the Elementary classroom. There will be a potluck dinner so please bring a dish. Plates, silverware, coffee, tea and water will be provided. This will also be a great opportunity to meet many of the parents for this year and kick start our year together.

Parent/Child Open House: Your child will be your guide through the classroom, showing you his/her favorite activities. Each family will be asked to sign up for 30 minutes to equalize the number of people in the room at one time. This is a time for your child to share the class with the important adults in his life. This is a special time just for your child. Please make arrangements for younger siblings to be outside the classroom during this time. Parents may choose to rotate turns in the class while occupying the younger sibling elsewhere (the playground will be available). This is not only important for the currently enrolled child, but we also want to honor the younger sibling's first time in the classroom to be special too.

Parent Education Night: These are available for parents to attend to gain a deeper knowledge of what is happening in their child's classroom

Parent/Teacher Conferences: This will be your opportunity for one-on-one time with the teacher. Childcare is provided at Foothills for $2 per child and will be billed on your invoice. Both parents are encouraged to attend, if possible.

Photo Day: Greg's photography of Molalla will come into the school to do individual and group photos. Package options will be available for purchase.

Public Outreach: These events are designed to share “What is Montessori?” to the general public and to gain public awareness of the school in our surrounding communities. Locations will be announced. Childcare is provided for free at this event.

RCB: Redirecting Children's Behavior Parenting Course is independently taught by Suzanne Voldman. Suzanne is a Greenstone parent and an INCAF (International Network for Children and Families) Certified Parenting Instructor. The parenting approach taught in this class dovetails with Maria Montessori's philosophy on discipline and many Montessori schools around the country offer it to parents as a way to make our approaches at home and in school consistent. Many parents last year took this course and have found it helpful in their day to day parenting and refreshing to have a safe place to discuss their challenges with like-minded parents using similar skills. Attendees receive weekly support and lessons during the course, then monthly support as our skills build and our children change. Once you attend the series, you are welcome to retake the course for free at any time; plus you have access to the monthly support meetings as well. Payments for the course go directly to Suzanne. Childcare is available for $40 per child for the series or $5 per night payable to Greenstone Montessori and will be invoice. This course is available to the public, so you are welcome to invite friends and family. Class size is limited so register early. The class will meet in the Elementary classroom. For more information on RCB go to www.incaf.com . Course fees are $100 per person or $150 per couple, plus $30 materials fees.

RCB Parent Support Group – Monthly parenting support meeting for those who have attended an RCB Course. Childcare is available through Greenstone for $5 per child and will be billed to your invoice. Facilitated by Suzanne Voldman, INCAF Certified Parenting Educator for Redirecting Children's Behavior Pacific Northwest. $40 for all 4 sessions payable to Suzanne.

RCB Workshops (Topics Vary) – A 2 hour workshop for parents who are currently attending the school as well as the general public. These workshops are taught by Suzanne Voldman, INCAF Certified Parenting Educator for Redirecting Children's Behavior Pacific Northwest. Childcare is available through Greenstone for $5 per child and will be billed to your invoice. Topics will be announced. $15 per person or $20 per couple payable to Suzanne.

School Showings : These showings are for potential families interested in a tour of the school. These are for adults only. Families that are interested in the school will be required to attend at least one showing before their application can be accepted.

Spring Festival: This is a new event this year, designed to bring us together in a family friendly events. Actual activities and times will depend on the committee that organizes it. Committee sign up will be available at the Orientation or through the office. Detailed information will be available before the event.

Tea: Formal presentations will be offered by Abby, Suzanne, Elizabeth or Patricia, plus social time. Topics will include Montessori, School Culture, Child Development, and Parenting.
