How to Apply to Greenstone

For the Children's House (ages 2 ½-6) :

  • A potential family is required to attend a School Showing (adults only please) to see the campus and learn about the culture of the school and the philosophy of Montessori education. Please plan on approximately one hour. Each parent will be required to have attended at least one Showing before the enrollment process can be complete.
  • A 20-30 minute observation of a live classroom is also highly encouraged and available before or after attending a School Showing. We only allow one adult at a time to minimize the distraction in the classroom. A family does not need to apply to the school to attend an observation.
  • A family may choose to complete the Application for Enrollment form and Application Questionnaire before or after attending the School Showing. These two forms must be completed to be considered for enrollment.
  • After the Application forms have been processed, both parents have attended a School Showing and there is an identified opening in the classroom a child will be invited to the school for a family tour and two one-on-one appointments with the child and teacher. A child's first time in the classroom is a very special and important introduction. With each interaction the teacher will evaluate the child's readiness for entering the classroom.

Openings at Greenstone are determined with the following considerations. Wait Pooled children are evaluated at the time of the opening and based on this list of considerations.

  • Has the family completed the required forms?
  • Have both parents attended a School Showing?
  • Did the parent choose to attend an Observation?
  • Has the family attended any other events at the school that were open to the public?
  • Are there siblings already enrolled?
  • Does the child have previous Montessori experience ?
  • What are the needs of the classroom to maintain a balance in age/gender?
  • What is the age of the child? It is best to start a child at 2 ½ -3 years old for the Children's House, however older children are encouraged to apply but spaces may be limited.
  • What were the answers to Application Questionnaire? Is this family interested in a long-term commitment to the school?
  • When did the family apply to the school?

Further Information

Montessori education is based on a 3 year work cycle and is most fully experienced if a child can begin at 2½- 3 and have the opportunity to stay through their full cycle. Openings for 4-5 year olds for the Children's House classrooms will be decided case-by-case.
